Gifts for the Church, Power for the Mission:
Why the Spirit Still Empowers Today

Pastor Ryan Perry Sermon 12 October 2025
The gifts of the Spirit were never meant for a moment—they are for the
movement of God through His people until Christ returns.
Did God turn off the power switch of the Holy Spirit’s gifts after the
Apostles died?
Some teach that miracles, prophecy, tongues, and healing ended with the
first century—but Scripture, the Baptist Faith & Message, and Baptist
history all declare otherwise.
From Pentecost to the present, the Spirit continues to gift and empower
believers to build the Church and advance God’s mission. The Bible gives
no expiration date for the gifts. The same Spirit who filled the Apostles
filled Carey and Fuller with missionary fire, gave Lottie Moon courage in
China, and anointed Spurgeon to preach with prophetic conviction.
Key Truth:
The Spirit’s gifts were not given to be admired but to be applied. God has
equipped every believer for His mission.
